Amanda Carrico
E&B Lab Principal Investigator & Director Associate Professor in Environmental Studies [email protected] My research falls at the intersection of the environmental and behavioral sciences. Broadly, I am interested in the social and psychological conditions that shape environmental decision-making, as well as behavioral responses to environmental stress. Much of my current work examines behavioral responses to environmental stress, especially migration and risk reduction actions among individuals and households. I specialize in quantitative approaches, including surveys and experimental methods, and seek out collaborations that integrate across the social and natural sciences. Victoria Stout
Doctoral Student & PhD Candidate, Environmental Studies [email protected] I am a PhD student interested in human/wildlife conflict. Specifically, I study how perceptions of and attitudes about wildlife affect human behavior. I worked as an ecological researcher with lizards in California, trees in Costa Rica, and seabirds on the island of Maui. I am passionate about education and outreach and have worked as a zookeeper, interpreter, docent, school program assistant, and outreach coordinator in California, Hawaii, and Germany. I received a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. |
Helen Wilson
Doctoral Student, Environmental Studies [email protected] I am a PhD student studying environmental change and human migration, particularly how mobility contributes to community and household adaptations to climate changes and shocks. I received my BA from Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University, during which I conducted migration-focused field research in Bhutan and Samoa. I have worked for nonprofits and international development organizations in Myanmar, Puerto Rico, and most recently, Washington, DC, and continue to be interested in development and disaster risk reduction. |
Natalie Bennett
Doctoral Student, Department of Environmental Studies [email protected] I am a PhD student interested in the human dimensions of climate change risk management and adaptation. My current research focuses on wildfire risk, and addresses the need for at-risk individuals and communities to live safely with fire while also adapting to changing fire regimes and heightened wildfire risks due to climate change. I received an MS in Environmental Studies from CU Boulder and a BA in Environmental Biology from Colgate University. Before entering graduate school, I gained experience working on climate adaptation and vulnerability planning, climate change communication, and stakeholder engagement in decision-making processes in both the public and private sectors. |
Hafizur Rahaman
MSc Student, Climate Change and Development, Independent University - Bangladesh Research Consultant, Bangladesh Environment & Migration Survey [email protected] I am studying the association of agricultural diversity, food security, and climate change impacts in the rural communities of southwestern Bangladesh. I received BA and MA in English from Dhaka College (affiliated to The University of Dhaka), and am currently pursuing MSc degree in Climate Change and Development from Independent University, Bangladesh, with a thesis. I am very much interested in learning the dynamics of climate change and environmental science at national, regional and global perspectives. I have been involved in Bangladesh Environment and Migration Survey (BEMS) in different capacities since 2014, including conducting qualitative and quantitative field research and assisting with developing research instruments. I also worked with German Red Cross as an Independent Consultant in an Anticipatory Early Actions evaluation program focusing adaptation options to reduce loss and damage caused by climate change and environmental shocks in flood and cyclone prone areas in Bangladesh. |
Samina Islam
MS Student, Department of Environmental Studies [email protected] I am a MS Student interested in exploring the complex interlinkages between climate change and migration; specifically, the socio-economic and health perspectives in relation to climate migration and how they associate with climate justice concerns. I completed my undergrad in International Relations from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). I have worked as a researcher at the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) where my work broadly focused on qualitative research in terms of climate adaptation and resilience, climate and development policies, and climate migration; where I gained experience in conducting and supervising field work alongside national and international stakeholder engagement in development and climate decision-making. |
Elizabeth Woolner
MS Student, Department of Environmental Studies [email protected] I am a M.S. student working on the Front Range Ecosystem Resilience Project with Dr. Carrico and INSTAAR. For this project, I am 1) interviewing public land managers about integration of public values into decision-making and 2) conducting a survey of the Front Range public about their environmental values and priorities. I completed my undergraduate degree at CU in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, graduating summa cum laude with a systematic literature review about entomology education. Before joining ENVS, I worked at Earth Lab and the North Central Regional Invasive Species and Climate Change Network (NC RISCC) as a program and research assistant. My major research interests are the socio-environmental interactions of ecological transformations and extreme events, environmental decision-making, and science communication. |
